St. Joseph’s Institutions celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with great patriotic zeal to honor the sacrifices of freedom fighters and to instill national pride among students, staff and parents. The program was graced by Chief Guest Miss Sindhu from Brahma Kumari, along with Director Rev. Fr. Santosh Fernandez, Campus Director & Finance Officer Rev. Fr. John Thomas, Vice Principal Mr. Chennerappa, Headmistress Sr. Dhayav Mary, teaching staff, non-teaching staff, students and parents.
The celebration commenced with flag hoisting by Chief Guest Miss Sindhu, followed by floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by all the dignitaries. Students presented a prayer song in Hindi. The welcome address was delivered by a Class 6 student. During the Independence Day week, various competitions were conducted for students from Class 1 to Class 6 and winners were awarded with prizes and certificates during the main event. Independence Day speeches were presented in English, Kannada and Hindi by school students, and a college student delivered a speech in English on the significance of Independence Day. All the dignitaries felicitated the Chief Guest with a garland, shawl and memento.
Chief Guest Miss Sindhu spoke about the importance of freedom fighters’ sacrifices, maintaining a positive attitude and practicing meditation for building good character. Director Rev. Fr. Santosh Fernandez spoke about British rule in India, the role of freedom fighters and the responsibility of citizens to protect the nation.
The cultural segment included a group song in Kannada by primary students, two patriotic dances by school students, two patriotic dances by college students, one dance by nursing students and one dance by primary section students. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by a college student and sweets were distributed to all students, parents and staff. Parents were specially invited and their presence added value to the celebration.
The Independence Day celebration was conducted in a meaningful and disciplined manner and successfully highlighted the importance of freedom, unity and patriotism.
