INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY 2026

June 20, 2026

"Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self."

St. Joseph’s School, Jnana Jyothi, Anekal, celebrated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm and active participation from students of Grades 1 to 6, teachers, and staff members. The event aimed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthy lifestyle through the practice of yoga.

The programme was graced by our esteemed Chief Guest, Mr. N. Umashankar, a renowned Yoga Trainer, whose presence added great value to the celebration. During his address, he recited a meaningful Sanskrit shloka emphasizing the importance of health, discipline, and inner peace through yoga. He explained how yoga helps in maintaining harmony between the body, mind, and soul. His inspiring words encouraged students and staff to practise yoga regularly and lead a balanced and healthy life.

The event was also honoured by the presence of our respected Director, Fr. Santhosh Fernandes SJ, and our beloved Headmistress, Sr. Dhayavu Mary, whose constant support and encouragement made the programme a grand success. In his address, Fr. Santhosh Fernandes SJ explained the true meaning of the word "Yoga," stating that yoga means "union"—the union of body, mind, and spirit. He encouraged everyone to embrace yoga not only as a form of physical exercise but also as a way of achieving self-discipline, inner peace, and holistic well-being.

The programme commenced with a brief introduction on the significance of International Yoga Day, followed by a guided yoga session. Students from Grades 1 to 6 enthusiastically performed various standing and sitting asanas, including Surya Namaskara, Virabhadrasana, Tadasana, Trikonasana, Vrikshasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Gomukhasana, Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Spinal Twist), Sukhasana, Vajrasana, Padmasana, and Bhadrasana. The session also included breathing exercises, pranayama, and meditation techniques. Participants performed the exercises with dedication and learned about the benefits of incorporating yoga into their daily lives.

The celebration concluded with a message of health, harmony, and mindfulness for all.

The event was a grand success and inspired the entire school community to make yoga a regular part of their daily routine.
